Styling the Season – Casual Holiday Looks

We are still in full blown holiday party season, which from the looks of it will probably go well into the new year!! So many people to see, that the weekends are filling up with events left and right.  Many are taking this causal and while I am all for being comfy this time of year, (seriously who wants to squash into something fitted when all they are doing are eating pie and cookies?), I also like to look just a bit festive.  If you’ve seen my posts on Instagram recently, you’ll see how I’m trying to put a little holiday oomph into my party looks while still being effortlessly casual.

To round it out, I have one more causal party look for you featuring my top purchase of 2018, if I am so bold to say, the velvet blazer.  This color is stunning in person, these pics don’t even do it justice, which is probably what drew me to it in the first place! It’s something that can get you from the office to the bar in no time. Chic and comfy I bought this bad boy in August. Stuck to me while trying it on in the 90 degree heat, but I HAD TO HAVE IT! Didn’t even think twice when I paid full price, yup, it’s that good. I actually have this blazer in three other colors, that I wear all the time.  The cut of it is a bit slimmer and the small mandarin makes it less stuffy, perfect for looking more casual, but can elevate an outfit with the right blouse and bottom in a heart beat.  Did I also mention it’s fairly stretchy!? Seriously, it’s amazing. Hoping J.Crew never stops making this cut, because I will be buying it in every color.

But back to making the outfit. A blazer like this speaks for itself, and with a plain cami, your basic dark denim and either a flat or basic heel and you are chic as can be, with little to no effort.  Need to dress it up a bit? A lacy cami, faux leather pants or even a crisp cigarette pant and metallic shoe and you are off to a cocktail part. Or simply put it over a silky cami dress! Statement earrings and a clutch also work for a bit more pop if you need it. Options are endless, but I just love this color that I let the blazer be my statement. I even kept this on after our shoot to grab lunch with a pair of boots! Don’t be scared of the velvet, it’s definitely not your mama’s or grandma’s velvet! This one is soft and luxurious looking and so cozy! Seriously, everyone go buy this blazer! Velvet or not, you won’t regret it.
